Robolab 2.9:

     Upgrade issues:

Q:  NXT is dead after upgrading firmware to speak to Robolab 2.9.3.

A:  The installation of the upgrade to Robolab may not be correct or you may have to go back to original firmware and re-initiate the NXT box.

WINDOWS:

    USB issues:

Q:  Can't see the NXT but it's plugged in?

A:  Turn on the NXT box, have your NXT connected to your computer, then restart your computer.  You should always remember to have everything on and connected before starting up your computer.   This will ensure connectivity.

Frame and window access in NXT software:

Q:  Can't access a specific side (frame) and/or some of the menu                   commands have disappeared.

A:  On a laptop, you may be having delayed commands due to lack of battery power or your computer may be on energy   conservation.  There may also be a task running from another application/program that is causing this delay.    Make sure your computer is plugged into an outlet to give it power.  Wait a while before panicking, you may find that, although delayed, the commands are still being processed.   Change your POWER setting so that you won't have to conserve so much energy when plugged in.  Last resort, you  can also press CTRL + ALT + DEL and access the TASK  MANAGER, highlight the NXT software, end task, and restart  to refresh memory.

    Updating firmware and software:

Q:  My firmware may have crashed my NXT unit after upgrade.

A:  Before doing any update or upgrade of firmware:

      1.  If you NXT works, don't change it.

      2.  Make sure you wait until others try and search the net to                       see if others have had problems.

      3.  Check LEGOeducation.com to see if your                                              patch/firmware/update/upgrade is necessary.  If you won't                      use any of those features, don't change it.

       4.  Make sure you know where your reset button is on the                          NXT.  Also, make sure you can go back one firmware in                          case problems occur.

Q:  Robolab 2.5.4 and 2.9.3 is what we use, is this ok?

A:  It is best to use 2.9.3 or better for Robolab as this is the in between software from ROBOLAB to NXT software.  The NXT software however takes full advantage of the NXT's  capabilities.  2.9.3 Robolab takes advantage of only the use of RCX parts on the NXT as well as some of the NXT many  features.  Check for updates/upgrades and see if others have  had problems before  doing the updates/upgrades.  This will  ensure that the units are functioning.

    Installation issues:

Q:  Problem with compatibility.

A:  There are so many versions of the Intel Processor and AMD         processor that the software installation for the NXT may not            recognize those processors and read an error during                         installation or put up an incompatible message.  As long as             you met the minimal requirements, try the installation anyway         and see if it runs.  For example, if you have a Pentium M, this         may trigger an incompatibility message, but chances are that         you really do have the minimal requirements.  Press "OK" and         go through the installation.

MAC:

    10.3.9 issues:

Q:  The USB is not functioning or not allowing for connectivity.

A:  There may be issues with the USB, to rule this out, try                 plugging in a USB drive and see if it picks up automatically.  If         not then the USB port may not be functioning at this time and         would require a restart/reboot.  Don't be surprised if you                 have to shutdown and restart again.  You may also want to             have your NXT on, connected to your MAC, start or restart             your computer, after the first chime or 1 second after black             out hold down the OPTION + COMMAND (apple key) + R + P            and wait for two more chimes to occur.  See if this allows for         your new device to be picked up.

Frame and window access in NXT software:

A:  On a laptop, you may be having delayed commands due to         lack of battery power or your computer may be on energy                conservation.  There may also be a task running from                     another application/program that is causing this delay.                  Make sure your computer is plugged into an outlet to give it            power.  Wait a while before panicking, you may find that,                 although delayed, the commands are still being processed.              Change your POWER setting so that you won't have to                     conserve so much energy when plugged in.  Last resort, you            can also press OPTION + COMMAND + ESC and access the             TASK MANAGER, highlight the NXT software, force quit, and             restart to refresh memory.
